MDC has been in the news lately, most of the reports have been negative. The arm-chair pundits have come out in full force, some going as far as saying that MDC lacks the capacity to govern all based having read few negative newspaper reports. Some have gone on to say that the President is not capable of leading, we should find a new candidate for 2008. For the real comrades, the genuine party cadres the issue has been the same, remember how negatively MDC was portrayed after Chikwata left in 2005 they professed the death of MDC, when some of the misguided elements within the dissolved UK executive leaked confidential internal emails to The Herald we survived another onslaught of negative media focus. Then last month everyone had an opinion on the 18th Amendment, the negotiations, after Lucia Matibenga was relieved of her post as Chairwoman for the Women's Assembly, the Anti-Tsvangirai coalition came out some saying the party has split, it did not help that here in UK we have negativity attracted by the antics of our little mugabe the man who says he wont go Ephraim Tapa, defying the vote of the province to step down, arranging illegal meetings plotting mini-insurrections all being reported by the media.
MDC has never been the darling of the media, the only sympathetic voice was the yester years Daily News, with exceptions from Trevor Ncube's owned titles. We are threat to Zanu PF we have always been since the formation of the party so Zanu Pf through its state machinery of the CIO they plant negative stories meant to portray MDC as weak, being led by a weak leader they say. Some have gone as far as to say MDC will not win the forthcoming elections. But true proponents for change will know that the real MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai is the only viable solution for Zimbabwe. We are almost there as it dawns on Zanu PF that its era is tethering to an end they will always churn out rubbish reports printed in their government mouth-piece The Herald, the Gono bank-rolled New Zimbabwe and all the other outlets that do not see it as smear campaign meant to weaken MDC's position as we gear towards 2008 elections.
People have been asking me what is my opinion on the rumours that Simba Makoni wants to start a new party. I think people should be alerted that this could be a ploy by Zanu PF together with the CIO to divide the votes ahead of the forthcoming 2008 elections. With the outcome of the negotiations determining whether MDC will participate into the forthcoming harmonised elections then Simba Makoni's reported party must be another Zanu PF extension meant to hoodwink the electorate and in the event that MDC does not participate then Simba Makoni's party will offer legitimacy to the result that Thabo Mbeki wants so much to be legitimised irregardless of the outcome. Surely if its not that, why today in 2007 when half of the population of Zimbabwe have fled the country? What sudden revelation has inspired Simba Makoni to form his own party? There are others that are saying this what Zimbabwe needed, really is what we needed? Some have gone on to say this is the only man that can beat Mugabe, is he really? Because I will tell you that President Tsvangirai is the only person that has beaten Mugabe in the stolen 2002 Presidential election. The same saviour tag was attached to Professor of Robotics Arthur Mutambara when arrived on the scene to lead the dissidents together with Weshman Ncube, Trudy and others that are inspiring Tapa and Co in UK. There is only ONE MDC, that lead by Morgan Tsvangirai anything else is cannon fodder.

Ephraim Tapa's Delusions of Grandeur
Lifting The Lid On Disturbances Afflicting MDC UK & Ireland
A joke is told of a husband who is asked by his wife to make sure that the light in the shed is switched off, husband duly goes to switch off the light and then he notices that the tap in the shed was dripping so he goes gathers his spanners and fixes the dripping tap taking almost two hours to do so, when he eventually joins his wife in bed she asks surprised where he had been, "switching off the light" he answers. I have not been updating my blog regularly of late, I got caught up in the fight to rid MDC UK and Ireland of opportunist Chairman and his kitchen cabinet. I thought it was just going to be routine whereby the Chairman would be asked to resign as an honourable thing given his catalogue of errors and gaffes but he had to be pushed. Hence it took me longer, occupied most of my time and left little time for me to engage with you via this blog. As an MDC Branch Chairman I owed it to MDC members in Northampton to campaign for the removal of Tapa and Mutyambizi who had failed to match the MDC members ambitions for the Province. I can tell you comrades without glee that that mine and other Chairpersons efforts were rewarded on the 13th of October 2007 in Northampton when 34 out of 37 Branches voted for the dissolution of Tapa's executive in the presence of MDC National Chairperson The Honourable Lovemore Moyo. Contrary to what the new "Chikwata II" have been saying through their emails to members at large and through their propaganda websites The Hon Lovemore Moyo did not dissolve the executive it was Branch executives who stood one by one to give testimony about Tapa's lack of leadership qualities and ask for the dissolution of Tapa's executive and at the end of consultations of which Mr Tapa's supporters were also given a chance to argue why the Ephraim Tapa should continue as Chairman by show of hands 34 out of 37 branches voted for the dissolution. Ephraim Tapa and his executive had become like an albatross on the neck of MDC members in UK almost destroying the newly formed province in their quest for power fueled by delusions of grandeur and for that they had to go. It was not only their incompetence which after almost 12 months at the helm they failed the to undertake most basic administrations like setting up an office having a 21st century website that befits MDC UK & Ireland but also their continued public denigration of MDC leadership who are in the trenches in Zimbabwe, who bear the brunt of the tyranny of Robert GARBAGE Mugabe's government as evidenced by the events of 11 March 2007 while Tapa and Mutyambizi live in the comfort of the diaspora and they have the temerity to leave their comfortable sofa lethargic from their three meals a day and log into their computers and denigrate the people's president and the people's movement. Comparing a respected opposition leader who has never presided over any government to be worse than Idi Amin? Saying President Tsvangirai and his liberation team are developing parabolic tummies because of the money they send to Zimbabwe. They should hang their heads in shame for dirtying the President's name misleading members in their quest to hang on to power at all costs mirroring their master's attitude, Robert GARBAGE MATIBILI Mugabe who defiantly refuses to give up power at the detriment of Zimbabwe.
When MDC was formed in Zimbabwe in September 1999 no one envisaged a situation whereby almost 4 million Zimbabweans would be living in exile. The first MDC constitution did not cater for Zimbabweans outside the country, after the second MDC congress in March 2006 the amended constitution made it possible for MDC members outside Zimbabwe to form an external assembly. Its on that premise that Tapa and his executive were elected at a historic congress in Oxford, electing Tapa was an error of judgment by the delegates that voted that we live to regret. The problems that besieged the province started in earnest just after Tapa was made Chairman. He was against the appointment of an Ambassador Makuvise and Madamombe to act as President Tsvangirai's emissaries while he ran the MDC structures in UK. Many wondered why Ephraim Tapa and Julias Mutyambizi-Dewa the former MDC UK & Ireland Chairman and Secretary were against the appointment of Mr Hebson Makuvise and Emily Madamombe to the posts of MDC Chief Representative and Deputy Chief Representative but I can reveal the truth here and unmask Tapa and Mutyambizi as opportunists who just wanted to harvest what they had not sown.
At the height of Chairpersons protracted saga to remove Tapa and Mutyambizi, Tapa was openly boasting that Harare will not do anything to him because he sends them money. The money being referred to here is MDC members card contributions not his own personal money yet Tapa and Mutyambizi do not have any MDC cards neither have they paid a single penny in contributions they do not belong to any branch. Do not confuse The Vigil with Tapa or Mutyambizi's branch affiliations which is rumoured to be Central London but we have never heard of any branch activities nor meetings relating to Central London. Money is at the root of Tapa's antagonism towards the appointment of Mr Makuvise and Ms Madamombe. Tapa and Mutyambizi deluded themselves into thinking that they would become the conduit of everything between MDC in Harare and anyone based in UK wanting to liaise with MDC, donate funds, offer material assistance. They also thought that they could ask for funds from potential donors and become the defacto MDC emissaries in their capacities as Chairman and Secretary of MDC UK and Ireland. Thats why they reacted with horror and dismay when Mr Makuvise and Ms Madamombe were made Ambassador and deputy respectively, they never stopped to see that appointments of Ambassadors as a Presidential prerogative and also that their work was solely for the mobilisation and administration of party structures in UK. They did not like the fact if MDC wanted to talk to Whitehall, Makuvise or Madamombe had to make the necessary arrangements, or vice-versa if Whitehall wanted to talk to MDC then again it would either be Mr Makuvise or Ms Madamombe. When MDC's Secretary of International Affairs, Professor Mukonoweshuro reprimanded Tapa, Mutyambizi wrote and distributed counter emails to Zanu PF rag The Herald and Gono sponsored New Zimbabwe filled with diatribe normally reserved for Robert "Matibili" Mugabe. That act in itself was gross insubordination and bringing the party into disrepute which Tapa and Mutyambizi escaped. With no large donor money they had to settle for MDC members contributions, at first Tapa wanted to become a signatory on the MDC UK & Ireland bank account but failed as the account is subject to status, Mutyambizi also tried to become a signatory , again he also failed as it was also subject to status, which is easily translated that Tapa and Mutyambizi have bad credit history. Eventually Mrs Mary Kasirowore the former treasurer and Mr Rodwell Mupungu became the two signatories taking the reins away from Tapa and Mutyambizi. God knows what could have become the funds deposited by branch Chairpersons for use to the party in Harare have they had their way.
The MDC in UK is governed by the provincial council which in our setting consists of Branch Chairpersons and the elected executive. We meet once every three months or 4 times a year which throws a lot of importance on what we deliberate and resolute. It will shock you that in all the meetings that Tapa Chaired we failed to resolute anything our meeting minutes are devoid of paramount issues that we should have deliberated on,like the continued repression of MDC cadres in Zimbabwe, the collapse of the Zimbabwe's economy. But the minutes of these meetings are rich in arguments which characterised council meetings that Tapa Chaired. At inception the argument fostered by Mutyambizi and Tapa were obviously the role of Mr Makuvise whose appointment had derailed their best laid plans of becoming the conduit between anyone in UK and MDC in Zimbabwe and their myopic defence for the emails they had paraded to the world to see. I described to you how often we met, because UK is a large province in terms of area covered not size unlike MDC provinces in Zimbabwe where if its the South Midlands Province you would be talking of a few nearby towns, i.e Gweru Urban, Mkoba, Shurugwi.... which makes traveling to the meetings easy and manageable. So time management was needed to successfully have a fruitful council meeting for MDC in UK given that some Branch Chairpersons would be traveling long distances from places such as Scotland, Newcastle...driving for hours to attend these meetings. For them to be slapped in the face when they eventually arrive at Tapa's Chaired council meetings which were a drone, where he would read his so called "Chairman's Report" for an hour, then there would also be a Secretary's Report for another hour, and a Women's Assembly Chairwoman's Report with each one of them trying to outdo each other in boring delegates to death by making them sit and listen to their reports of non-achievement. The Treasurer's report which was my highlight of every meeting would then be allocated a measly last 20 minutes and then it would be 5, yes 5 minutes for the Branch Chairpersons to give a report to the council. The Branch Chairpersons who are at the forefront of the party, they meet with MDC members in their respective constituencies and they were being asked to deliver a report so detailed such that the council would have a clear picture of the health of the branch all in five minutes. If Tapa and Mutyambizi were not reading their reports at the council meeting they would be busy arguing with branch chairs that District formations should be shelved while they did gap filling of positions vacant at branch level. It was not a very clever idea, you fill positions vacant at Branch level and then you have district formations with the same people eligible to campaign and be voted at District level meaning that the same people that would filled a vacant position at his/her branch might actually vacate it again if elected at district level, resulting cycle of gap filling elections exercise taking place of serious party business. It would have been wise to have the districts in place once thats done the District executive would then be tasked to gap fill positions vacant at branches within their Districts. The real reason behind such a laborious exercise was Tapa's paranoia that the former Organising Secretary was busy propping up his own supporters in positions of influence within the branches thus eroding Tapa's own power base. Its the real reason Tapa burned highway miles on his car every weekend to officiate at every Branch gap filling exercise and opening, he had to be everywhere, he could not bear to delegate, hounded members of his executive about their whereabouts every weekend so he could be on top of things, like an octopus his fingers were in every pie. The descent into chaos at Provincial Council meetings was when Tapa allowed appointed policy secretaries to meddle with the structures foregoing their primary aim to research and recommend policies that MDC can adopt once in power. For these portfolio secretaries were supposed to be professionals in their chosen fields, such that Nyoni, Tapa's chief apologist who was appointed Transport and Logistics Secretary should have occupied himself with formulating policies to help improve road safety in Zimbabwe, improve public transport and how we can maintain our roads not for him to set up a website so he can denigrate President Tsvangirai in order to save his position which was/is politically insignificant.
Tapa's quest for power defies logic, a political nonentity granted refugee status in UK, he chose the easy way bought a plane ticket and fled Zimbabwe, while the real heroes, the pioneers of this struggle, the fathers of MDC are being severely brutalised by the dictator in Zimbabwe. Genuine unselfish leaders such as Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Grace Kwinjeh, mai Sekai Holland, Nelson Chamisa, Gift Tandare....who have the interests of Zimbabwe at heart. One of Tapa's apologists Peter Nyoni assets that Tsvangirai was scared by the rise of Tapa who he purports achieved a membership of 4000 members in one year. 4000 is the figure that is being thrown around, but as Chairperson I will tell you we have maybe about 70 card carrying members in Northampton, only about 1/3 attends meetings regularly and contribute meaningfully to the struggle, the rest are opportunists such as Tapa himself who want to ride on MDC's back to fulfill their own personal ambitions of being granted refugee status. Thats the people Tapa courted and attracted, selfish Zimbabweans who buy the MDC card to add weight to their asylum cases. Up until last weekend Tapa and Mutyambizi widely circulated an invite to an illegal meeting in Leicester convened under the banner of MDC UK & Ireland in their continued defiance of Hon Lovemore Moyo's dissolution of their executive, in order to achieve the numbers and obviously attract their main constituency they falsely said a representative of Home Office will be at the meeting, a representative of Refugee Council will also be at the meeting. I do not know who they are trying to fool, did the people that attended the Leicester meeting expect really to see a Home Office official and the British government would pay the official double time as the Border & Immigration Control part of Home Office normally do not work on a Saturday? Immigration and Asylum became Tapa's focal point during his tenure, he possessed no other skill, he is not a gifted orator, nor is he good at administration, in immigration and asylum he had struck a chord with his followers. It became Tapa's ticket to stardom, promising to move heaven and earth for MDC members to be recognised as refugees in UK again Tapa insisted that a junior appointee a portfolio secretary tasked with formulating MDC UK and Ireland province's policy on Immigration and Asylum to write letters of support for members a task that Mr Makuvise had to to take since he is the emissary of the party. We have had reports that support letters for Immigration and Asylum were exchanged for sexual favours for female MDC supporters. If thats not enough he engaged in a adulterously affair with a married woman and openly boasted about it. What a fine example his was for the youth in MDC UK, in today's climate of AIDS and broken marriages.
Let him fool no one, he is history he could have had a chance to come back when the another extra-ordinary congress is planned early next year if he had taken this time to redeem himself. The Hon Lovemore Moyo made it clear that the dissolved executive had a chance to seek re-election at the congress, surely if they had been short-changed as they purport to have happened with the members back them as they dream they could come back and the joke would be on people like me. They know that there is no way back, they delude themselves thinking they have clout a little bit of clout to go at it alone they confess admiration for Professor Welshman Ncube and Professor Arthur Mutambara we can all read between the lines and call their crusade a chance to save the party, which party whose party? Now they are clinging onto the anti-Tsvangirai coalition dropping names of people they have never spoken to as sympathetic MPs referring to MDC elected law makers who wield no power in party structures, the so called sympathetic MPS were touted as star ticket to their illegal gathering in Leicester this past Saturday. I urge you to dismiss Tapa and his cohorts as a political garbage they are, opportunists who if not of our error of judgment could have remained a peripheral figures whose ambitions are not matched by their skills at all except being used by the enemy to sow and foster divisions within MDC UK their hamper our own contributions to free Zimbabwe from tyranny and help campaign for MDC's victory in the forthcoming elections.
